IRItaly Like every year, with this message I would like to thank all those who contributed (and are contributing) to draft and IRITaly DFLabs. It was a very 2008 of obligations, and much satisfaction on several levels. The download of our project PTK were several thousand, from all over the world, and we have confirmed that the project, among other things chosen and assessed by the SANS Institute and numerous other international organizations, including Europol, is on track .
The 2009 waiting for us with great prospects, and as such is DFLabs IRItaly project, now in its sixth year of operation.
We started when, without unnecessary snobbery, the field of digital investigation was indeed the prerogative of the few in the world. The first contributions to the project date back to 1999, with several international investments this year are the cornerstone, the DFRWS. Our research has been published worldwide, and, to date, we can count about twenty peer reviewed articles in respected journals and conference proceedings.
E 'then the time to further consolidate their efforts, in view of 2010. For the years ahead, we decided this strategy:
1) CDs IRItaly in three versions are still available, but will not receive additional support (end of life). This is a project for the past six years ago. In this period we see with pleasure in a series of emulations, many of which have, in our opinion, nothing innovative, and at the same time, for their approach, generating strong doubt on forensic validation. At the time of writing, in our country, we counted at least four distributions that "elaborate" as established by IRItaly now six years ago. We wish you every success with their mantainers, while considering that it is not useful for the community (and us) go on a road (that of the live CD), now belonging to a past generation.
2) DIM-AM will continue to be supported, because it is a tool, in our opinion, still useful, and that can help many investigators during the preservation of the base. Since then DIM-AM part (even if free) from Digital Investigation Manager, it seems fair to continue the support.
3) Our efforts, both in development, and documentation of both the website, will be directed mainly to PTK, now close to ten thousand downloads real, and the potential of which are now shared throughout the world. The project will have numerous new products for the biennium 2009/2010.
At this point I would like to thank all those who contributed, directly and indirectly, the growth of IRItaly. In particular, the team DFLabs. A group of people at the highest level, always available to compare and professional challenges, a group that has embraced the project since time is not suspected and that, now more than ever, deserves applause. Not only myself, but all those who really do this job.
